From Paper to AI: Ondo State Brings Pension Records Into the Digital Age With Ondo Pay

The Ondo State Government has launched Ondo Pay, an AI-driven platform designed to digitize civil service pension records, salary computation, approvals, reporting and payroll processing. This innovative system, unveiled in Akure on September 2, 2026, aims to enhance payroll and pension accuracy, reduce errors, and streamline personnel expenditure.

Unveiled by the Ondo State Government, the platform integrates Bank Verification Number information and controlled access mechanisms to ensure the verification and security of pension and payroll records. By minimizing manual calculations and paperwork, the system promises to bolster control over personnel expenditure, thereby supporting more effective budgeting, workforce planning, and decision-making.

The pension migration is part of a broader HR management initiative that centralizes employee records, approvals, and reporting. Within Ondo Pay's SmartApps AI mobile self-service application, authorized employees can access payslips, view salary and deduction details, update personal information, and submit requests, eliminating the need for multiple visits to payroll or administrative offices.

The Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Omowumi Isaac, has been instrumental in advancing the accountability and efficiency objectives behind this initiative. By enhancing payroll controls, providing reliable management information and establishing a clear audit trail, the Ministry of Finance aims to protect public funds, minimize leakages, and convert improved expenditure control into measurable fiscal and revenue gains, which can then be allocated to priority services and workforce development.

Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa's administration has consistently employed technology to strengthen government institutions and improve public service delivery. At the launch, the Head of Service of Ondo State, Chief Segun Odusanya, emphasized the importance of good information as the foundation of good governance. He stressed that the migration to a single digital system would establish a robust framework for managing personnel and pension records, foster better workforce planning, enable real-time decision-making, and alleviate delays associated with traditional procedures.

Chief Odusanya called upon Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Departments, Personnel Officers, and other stakeholders to demonstrate leadership in the effective implementation of the platform, stressing the need for accuracy, confidentiality, security, and professionalism in handling personnel and pension information. For civil servants in Ondo State, the migration translates to more accurate salary, deduction, and pension payments, as well as more rapid resolution of related complaints and requests.

For the government, the system offers a single, reliable source of payroll and pension data, enabling better wage-bill control, and ensuring that employees receive their rightful compensation on time.
