Fire destroys property worth millions of naira in Ilorin

On Thursday, a devastating fire outbreak occurred in Ilorin, the capital city of Kwara State, causing damage to property estimated to be worth millions of naira. The incident took place around 15:56 hours at a building situated near Ile-Anu Wofem Church and the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) in Asa-Dam Area, Ilorin metropolis. Hassan Adekunle, the spokesman for the state fire service, reported that the blaze affected three-bedroom flats and a self-contained apartment containing a room and parlour.

Unfortunately, the firefighters' prompt arrival was delayed, allowing the fire to gain considerable momentum before they arrived on the scene.

Adekunle stated that due to the firefighters' swift and professional response, the inferno was contained, preventing the adjoining room-and-parlour apartment from being consumed by the flames. Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was likely caused by a power surge, which ignited combustible materials within the affected section of the building.

Alabi Muhammed, the Chief Fire Officer of the state fire service, advised residents to ensure that their electrical installations are regularly inspected and maintained by qualified personnel. Muhammed also urged the public to contact the state fire service immediately upon noticing a fire, emphasizing that early notification allows firefighters to better contain the blaze before it escalates.
