Fagan lashes Kangaroos over 'unfair' comments after Clarkson axing

Brisbane coach Chris Fagan has strongly condemned North Melbourne's remarks about the abrupt dismissal of their former head coach Alastair Clarkson. Clarkson's game plan was harshly criticized by North Melbourne's president Sonja Hood and football boss Todd Viney following his termination, despite a year remaining on his contract.

Fagan, a close friend of Clarkson, expressed his disappointment over the public explanation of the coach's firing, calling it "unfair." Clarkson, known for his successful tenure at Hawthorn from 2005 to 2021, was appointed as North Melbourne's head coach in August 2022. However, he was unexpectedly sacked by Viney and Hood on a recent Friday.

Hood remarked that the club requires a coach capable of implementing a modern game plan, while Viney highlighted the club's ongoing issues with its strategy. North Melbourne's decision was influenced by a survey of club members, which indicated that Clarkson no longer had the support of enough people to lead the team effectively.

Fagan, who previously worked with Clarkson during their time at Melbourne in the late 1990s, empathized with his former colleague, stating that he hopes Clarkson could have been given an opportunity to respond to the feedback before his sudden dismissal.
