Dubai driver mourns more than 100 friends and neighbours swept away in Nepal floods

A Nepali resident living in Dubai is devastated by the loss of over 100 friends and neighbors who perished in recent devastating floods in his hometown. Ram Kumar Rijal, 47, lost numerous loved ones including school friends, neighbors, and business associates in the flood-ravaged Nuwakot district. His wife, two sons, and granddaughter managed to escape to higher ground.

Rijal expressed his inability to process the enormity of the tragedy, as he struggles to remember the names of those who lost their lives. He recounted how more than 1,200 people have died and more than 4,200 are still missing, primarily due to a glacial collapse triggering the floods. Rijal's hometown witnessed the loss of shops, farms, bridges connecting districts, and the lives of 13 people working in the fields.

While some managed to evacuate, others were swept away by the surge, leaving entire families without their loved ones. Despite the loss, Rijal remains hopeful, urging others not to lose hope and to rebuild their lives.
