Former Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz has stated that the decision to increase the number of special assessments for forecast numbers to 22 times a year during the previous government's administration was a joint responsibility of the Cabinet, including then Minister of PAS. The special assessment is not a new concept, having been introduced since 1999, and the 22 assessments per year have been in place during the Barisan Nasional government before he was appointed Finance Minister.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the government returned to the existing 22 assessments per year, and this was informed to Parliament through an official response.

Tengku Zafrul emphasized that under the current Madani government, the special assessments have been reduced to only eight times a year. He addressed the concern of a few individuals attributing the decision to increase special assessments to him personally. The fact remains clear that the issue should not be allowed to disrupt the government's focus on national development.

The Madani government's priority is to resolve the people's issues and ensure that every foundation truly benefits them. The debate on the special assessments of the forecast numbers resurfaced following allegations and disputes regarding the increase in the number of assessments during the Covid-19 pandemic.
