Daud Bakar tuntut RM21.15 juta, dakwa nama, reputasi disalah guna

Daud Bakar, a prominent Islamic finance figure, has filed two lawsuits, each demanding RM10.75 million, against two individuals connected to an investment scheme. The lawsuits, filed on August 18, accuse former executive officer Norliza Tajudin and AUF MBZ Consortium founder Mahadi Badrul Zaman of using Bakar's name, position, and professional reputation without his knowledge or consent to enhance the scheme's credibility and attract investors.

Bakar, who previously served as a Sharia advisory committee chair at Bank Negara Malaysia and the Securities Commission, denied involvement in the day-to-day management of Energy Eco Bhd (EEB) or AUF MBZ Consortium, stating that operations were handled by the respective companies' management. The lawsuits were filed after EEB failed to pay a final dividend and investors began contacting Bakar.

Bakar has since paid RM750,000 using his personal savings and is now seeking RM750,000 from both Norliza and Mahadi, in addition to RM10 million in compensation for reputational harm and expenses. The dispute arose during separate criminal proceedings in January, where Bakar and Norliza were found not guilty of seven counts of criminal breach of trust involving RM10.55 million.

Both men also face separate charges related to running a security firm without a license or improper registration.
