Bildung: New York verbietet KI-Programme für Schüler bis zur achten Klasse

New York City has imposed a one-year ban on artificial intelligence programs for students in grades eight and below, according to Mayor Zohran Mamdani's announcement on Wednesday. The prohibition covers all generative AI programs specifically targeting pupils during the upcoming school year, affecting elementary and middle school students.

Higher-grade students in the nation's largest city will have access to pilot programs and KI (Artificial Intelligence) courses twice a year. Additionally, the city plans to provide recommendations on students' screen time.

Mamdani emphasized the importance of teaching children how to question, challenge assumptions, scrutinize premises, and seek reasons when they encounter AI. This ban is part of a broader examination of how children in the U.S.'s largest school system interact with artificial intelligence technology.
