Bhopal Municipal Corporation Forms Joint Team To Implement HC Slaughterhouse Order

Bhopal's Municipal Corporation has established a collaborative team consisting of representatives from revenue, veterinary, and animal disease investigation departments to carry out the High Court's orders regarding the modern slaughterhouse at Maida Mill Road, Jinsi. This decision was made following a meeting at the police commissioner's office on August 27, in response to the High Court's directive on August 25 in the case of M/s Livestock Food Processors Pvt Ltd vs State of Madhya Pradesh and others.

The task force will conduct an inspection of the slaughterhouse, review stored items, and evaluate the quality and condition of animal products. The team, comprising an SDM/tehsildar, a senior veterinary doctor, and three specialists from the State Animal Disease Investigation Laboratory, will record the entire process via video to ensure transparency.

Substandard products will be disposed of, while compliant items will be managed according to state and civic body guidelines. The High Court has also mandated the cessation of the ammonia plant once the articles have been removed. However, the Madhya Pradesh High Court recently dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking the permanent closure of the modern slaughterhouse, deeming it redundant as the facility was already constructed and operational, and the required permissions had been obtained from the Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board.

The petitioners had raised concerns about environmental and public health issues related to the earlier Jinsi Road slaughterhouse and questioned the location of the new facility. The court dismissed the PIL due to lack of grounds for interference, noting that a similar issue had been addressed in proceedings before the National Green Tribunal.

The BMC commissioner confirmed that officials would submit the names and designations of the nominated officers as soon as possible to commence the implementation process.
