Bauchi police launch probe after corporal announces resignation over two years’ unpaid salary

The Bauchi State Police Command has launched an investigation into allegations made by Corporal Yusuf Aliyu regarding his unpaid salary for approximately two years. Aliyu, identified as Police Force Number 524180, had posted on social media that he was unable to access his salary and subsequently announced his intention to resign from the Nigeria Police Force.

However, a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer on September 3, 2026, revealed that Aliyu's salary had been paid regularly, but the issue was traced back to a discrepancy in his Bank Verification Number (BVN). The police stated that the BVN linked to Aliyu's account differed from the one on his salary account, which led to the restriction.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordered the probe to investigate the circumstances surrounding the salary restriction. The police also criticized Aliyu for addressing his concerns on social media rather than through the established internal grievance mechanisms, which is against the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy.

CP Aliyu emphasized the importance of addressing genuine complaints and directed officers to use the appropriate administrative procedures. The Commissioner reassured that no genuine complaint would be ignored, while stressing the police force's commitment to discipline, professionalism, and the welfare of its personnel.
