Bargi Dam Opens 13 Gates After Heavy Rainfall, Narmada Water Level Set To Rise | VIDEO

Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh witnessed the opening of 13 sluice gates at the Bargi Dam due to continuous rainfall that increased water inflow into the reservoir on Thursday. The gates were raised to a height of 1.96 meters, allowing nearly 3,802 cubic meters of water to flow per second. At the time of release, the dam held 3,090.50 million cubic meters of water, which was 97.18% full. Its water level reached 422.35 meters, very close to its full reservoir level of 422.76 meters.

Following the release of water, the Narmada water level at the ghats was expected to rise by seven to eight feet, prompting the administration to issue an alert for riverside areas. Residents were advised to stay away from the ghats and riverbanks. Several tourists arrived at the dam to witness the water release, but authorities cautioned them to follow safety instructions.

The opening of the dam gates occurred two weeks ago, with 13 gates raised to 2.15 meters, releasing 3,988 cubic meters of water per second into the Narmada River. This would result in a water level rise of eight to ten feet in the river. The heavy rainfall caused floods in Bhedaghat, a popular tourist destination known for its marble rocks and Dhuandhar Falls.

The local municipal council removed shops from the area and requested shopkeepers to stay away until the situation stabilized. Specialized rescue teams, local divers, and civil defense personnel were deployed to monitor the situation and prevent accidents.
