Anti-corruption panel searches former Kolkata mayor Firhad Hakim’s 2 firms

West Bengal's Anti-Institutional Corruption Commission and police conducted searches at two private companies owned by former Kolkata mayor Firhad Hakim on Thursday. The investigation aims to determine if the assets of Hakim Polymaker Private Limited and Hakim Chemicals were obtained through corruption and if institutional corruption was involved.

Hakim, known as Bobby in political circles, is listed as the owner of both companies on their websites. The Anti-Corruption Commission, established by the BJP government, is tasked with investigating allegations of institutional corruption during the Trinamool Congress rule. Despite Hakim being re-elected on a Trinamool Congress ticket and serving as the city's mayor, he resigned following a political shift.

His political rivals have questioned the "delay" in government action against him, especially considering the investigations many current TMC leaders are facing. Critics point to controversies from his tenures as urban development minister and mayor as reasons for the alleged delay in taking action.
