A car carrying Anthony Joshua's driver attempted to overtake another vehicle before a fatal crash, a court in Nigeria has been told. The incident occurred in December last year when the group, travelling to visit Joshua's father in Ogun State near Lagos, were asleep at the wheel. Driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, is facing charges including causing death by dangerous driving and driving without a valid license, which he denies.
His passengers, personal trainer Latif Ayodele and strength coach Sina Ghami, both died in the crash. Abubakar Adamu, 35, the stationary lorry driver, also denies obstructing traffic. Inspector Christopher Ajayi Taiwo from the Ogun State Motor Traffic Division stated that the Lexus and lorry involved in the crash were removed by the time he arrived, but debris and soya beans from the lorry were found.
Police have yet to take a statement from Joshua, with Kayode’s lawyer questioning the lack of statement, to which the inspector replied that efforts are ongoing. The trial has been adjourned until September 10.
