Africa’s energy future must be shaped with ambition and pragmatism - Energy Minister

Deputy Transport Minister Dorcas Affo-Toffey received a delegation from African World Airlines (AWA) in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, following the official relaunch of the Accra–Abidjan air route. The delegation expressed the airline’s gratitude for her participation in the ceremony. Affo-Toffey acknowledged the airline’s commitment to enhancing air connectivity between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire and emphasized how improved direct flights would benefit regional integration, trade, investment, and travel ease for citizens, businesses, and visitors.

The relaunch of the route is anticipated to facilitate movement between the two countries and strengthen their economic, cultural, and diplomatic bonds. Affo-Toffey, who represents Jomoro in the Western Region, praised AWA for its role in Ghana’s aviation sector and its investment in regional connectivity. She reiterated the government’s dedication to collaborating with aviation stakeholders to boost connectivity, enhance passenger experience, and support the aviation industry’s growth.

The Accra–Abidjan route holds particular significance due to the countries’ close relationship as neighbors and ECOWAS members. The enhanced air connectivity between Accra and Abidjan is projected to benefit business travelers, tourists, government officials, and other passengers who frequently travel between the two major urban centers.

The Deputy Minister’s interaction with AWA illustrates the importance of cooperation between government and private-sector operators in creating a more interconnected and efficient regional aviation network. Affo-Toffey’s attendance at the relaunch and her subsequent engagement with AWA further underscore the government’s commitment to initiatives that foster regional integration and bolster Ghana’s status as a vital aviation and transport hub in West Africa.
