6 Wounded, Including a Child, in Russian Strikes on Kyiv

On September 3, a Russian general was seriously wounded in an assassination attempt in the Saratov region, according to several Telegram channels linked to Russia's security services. Major General Nikolai Varpakhovich, commander of the 22nd Heavy Bomber Aviation Division, was shot in the abdomen and head with a pistol during the attack. Both bullets were successfully removed by medical professionals, but Varpakhovich remains in serious condition and is being prepared for transportation to Moscow.

The attack occurred in the village of Probuzhdenie, near the city of Engels, where the attacker arrived on a motorcycle. He had arrived moments after Varpakhovich had left a store. Following the shooting, Varpakhovich's driver was also injured but managed to escape, calling for medical assistance.

Ukraine's Security Service and Prosecutor General's Office named Varpakhovich a suspect in absentia in connection with the missile strike on Kyiv's Okhmatdyt children's hospital on July 8, 2024. At the time of the strike, the hospital was treating over 600 patients and staff members when two individuals were killed.
