Two Flexitech Directors Arrested Over Alleged Sh31.2 Million Theft

Two directors of Flexitech Group Limited have been arrested for allegedly stealing Sh31.2 million from a major retail chain, according to prosecutors. Martin Kariuki Maina and Johnson Gituma Mwangi were taken into custody by investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nairobi. The arrest came after a complaint was filed by the retail company regarding the missing funds.

The DCI claims that the two directors, who were also agents for the victim retailer, received Sh31,213,700.95 from customers who bought goods from their stores. The investigators allege that Maina and Mwangi, along with other unknown accomplices, misappropriated the money for personal gain instead of remitting it to the retailer as requested.

The alleged crime is considered a breach of trust in their roles as agents. Both suspects are currently in police custody and are set to appear in court on charges of stealing by agent, which pertains to the unlawful conversion of funds entrusted to them. The DCI stated that the investigation into this case is still ongoing and that additional suspects are being pursued in connection to the alleged theft.
