Two Filipino sailors killed in Strait of Hormuz attack on Saudi vessel

Two Filipino sailors employed by Saudi Arabia's national shipping company, Bahri, lost their lives in a security incident involving one of the company's vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. According to Bahri, the incident occurred while the vessel, SIDR, was navigating the strategically important waterway. The maritime security agency UKMTO reported on August 31 that a tanker had been struck by three unidentified projectiles as it departed from the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has previously cautioned tankers against passing through the narrow waterway without authorization.

Bahri maintains constant communication with the vessel and is collaborating closely with relevant authorities and maritime industry stakeholders while continuously monitoring the situation. The latest incident follows another attack on a Bahri vessel near the Strait of Hormuz, which took place roughly a month ago. The Wedyan supertanker, which was sailing near the coast of Oman, was hit by an unknown projectile.

In addition, two other Bahri vessels, AMZAN and MASA, were targeted in the Red Sea following announcements by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen about a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia.
