Sonic the Hedgehog trading cards are coming — everything that collectors need to know

Panini is set to release its inaugural Sonic the Hedgehog trading cards collection, encompassing iconic and contemporary incarnations of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Dr. Eggman. The set also encompasses rare Color Blast, Kaboom!, Tie-Dye Prizms, and 1-of-1 Black Prizms. Sonic the Hedgehog is making its trading card debut through Panini America.

The collection amalgamates characters from the franchise's vintage and present-day periods, offering a blend of common cards and elusive inserts. Thrill-seekers will find rare cards nestled within these packs. Sonic is undeniably the star attraction, but collectors will also be on the lookout for Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Dr. Eggman.

Additional themed inserts to pursue include Negative Space, Eggman Empire, and Artistry in Motion. For collectors drawn to the hunt for elusive treasures, the collection features several ultra-rare and limited-edition cards. Among these are Color Blast and Kaboom! cards portraying Sonic and other characters. There are Tie-Dye Prizms numbered to five, indicating only five copies each, and 1-of-1 Black Prizms, which, predictably, are singular in existence.

Panini is rolling out the Sonic collection in Hobby, Hobby Preferred, and retail assortments, providing collectors with varied entry points into the set. The Hobby assortment packs six cards per pack, six packs per box, and 12 boxes per case. The collection covers Sonic's classic and modern eras, ensuring that both long-time fans and newcomers will encounter familiar elements to pursue. The final piece of the puzzle is determining which Sonic card one will pull first.
