Sindh Agriculture university shut after 11 hurt in spiral of violence

The Sindh Agriculture University, located in Tandojam, was shut down for a day on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2026, due to a series of violent incidents that occurred both outside and within the university premises on Tuesday. Eleven people, including several SAU students, were injured in clashes that took place in front of the university's main entrance and at the nearby Rural Health Centre.

The violence began when a dispute over seating in the crop production faculty escalated between two students from rival communities - Baloch and Kaleri. This minor disagreement quickly grew into a larger confrontation as supporters from both sides arrived at the university, leading to further clashes. Shots were reportedly fired during the unrest, adding to the severity of the situation.

The injured individuals were taken to the Rural Health Centre for treatment, where another violent incident unfolded as enraged men stormed the facility armed with axes, sticks, and other blunt objects. Despite efforts by police and university security, the clashes continued, resulting in injuries and property damage. The university's administration confirmed that a total of eleven individuals were injured, with names provided for those detained during the incidents.

A formal investigation was yet to be initiated. Both community leaders and SAU officials were working towards reconciliation, and the university's decision to suspend all academic activities for the day was made as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and security of all students, faculty members, and staff on campus.
