Pregnant Woman Carrying Twins Dies In MP’s Mandla; Family Alleges 108 Ambulance Delay

A pregnant woman carrying twins passed away in Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday after her health rapidly deteriorated. The incident occurred in Salaiya village under the Bijadandi police station. Her family claims they were unable to secure a 108 ambulance and had to transport her to the hospital in a private vehicle.

According to her husband, Pritam Nareti, he contacted the 108 ambulance service but was informed that an ambulance was not available. The family subsequently took the woman to the Community Health Centre in Bijadandi using a private vehicle. The poor road conditions reportedly contributed to a delay in reaching the hospital. At around 5:10 pm, the family arrived at the hospital, where doctors confirmed that the woman had already died.

Tragically, there was also no heartbeat or breathing in either of the unborn babies. Medical Officer Dr Akshay Hardaha revealed that the woman suffered from sickle cell disease and had been receiving regular treatment. She had previously been referred to the District Hospital in Mandla and the Medical College in Jabalpur for various reasons.

An ultrasound had confirmed the pregnancy with twins. Upon her death, the family expressed outrage over the alleged unavailability of the 108 ambulance. The tehsildar, police station in-charge, and other officials visited the hospital following the incident to discuss the matter with the family. Police have been informed about the case.

The woman's body will be sent for a post-mortem examination, and the precise cause of death, as well as the facts surrounding the alleged delay in obtaining a 108 ambulance, will become clear after the post-mortem report and further investigation.
