Poverty Is Not The Destiny Of Gambians — EFF Gambia Leader

Prince Ebrahim Sanyang, the Founder and Party Leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in The Gambia, has vowed to tackle poverty in his country. Speaking at the launch of EFF Gambia in Jama Hall on August 22, 2026, Sanyang declared that "poverty is not the destiny of the Gambian people." He said the party was formed to listen to the struggles of ordinary Gambians, including mothers, youth, and communities affected by rising living costs.

To address the cost of living crisis, Sanyang announced an ambitious food security plan. This includes establishing Freedom Stores for affordable commodities, a National Food Buffer Stock Company to stabilize prices, and the revival of the "1 Village, 1 Cooperative" initiative for agriculture. He also pledged to create the National Fishing Company to make fish more affordable and provide jobs for youth.

For the economy, Sanyang outlined plans for zero unemployment, a "1 Ward, 1 Industry" program, and a 24-hour economy, along with enterprise grants for young people and women. In terms of education and health, he outlined free quality education, free primary healthcare, and a "1 Village, 1 Clinic" initiative. He also promised monthly relief packages for low-income households and a stipend for those aged 60 and above.

Infrastructure-wise, Sanyang promised access to affordable water, electricity, and internet for every household, along with "1 Village, 1 Borehole" initiatives for clean water access. He also proposed "1 Community, 1 Police Station" and "1 District, 1 Fire Service" to ensure public safety.

Sanyang emphasized that the test of development is not just GDP figures, but whether families can afford to feed their children and whether every child has access to education. He also promised world-class infrastructure and sustainable communities, including a national railway, international airport, and shipping line, alongside affordable housing and industrial parks.

Finally, Sanyang vowed to fight corruption, manage public funds transparently, and strengthen institutions to ensure that every Gambian who works honestly can escape poverty, not as charity, but as the rightful return of their resources to the people.
