Police debunk viral video of officers ‘fleeing from drone’

The Osun State Police Command has refuted a widely shared video that appeared to show police officers fleeing from a drone. A statement issued by the Command's Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on Wednesday clarified that the footage originated from a Yoruba movie production titled 'Omije Fun Omije Part 2', filmed in May 2026.

During the movie's production, a police patrol vehicle was utilized, and an actor in a police uniform was briefly outside the moving vehicle, ran after it, and boarded before an off-screen bystander recorded the scene. This bystander misinterpreted the scene as police officers running from a drone and posted the footage online. The Command emphasized that the visible drone was being used for filming the movie and had no role in any real-life pursuit of the police officers.

The statement explicitly rejected any claim that serving officers had "run away" from a drone, calling it misleading and damaging to the Force's reputation. The Command criticized the circulation and presentation of the footage without proper verification, urging those sharing the material to retract the caption and narrative, and to issue a correction clarifying the footage's origin.

The Osun State Police Command reiterated its commitment to lawful and professional policing and its openness to factual reporting, but warned against the deliberate distortion of images and videos to disparage the Command.
