Police arrest two suspected child traffickers, rescue four-year-old girl in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Police in Abuja have apprehended two individuals suspected of child trafficking and rescued a four-year-old girl named Ummi Mariam Abdullah. The suspects, Rose Daniel and Blessing John, were captured on August 27, 2026, while attempting to escape with the child. The authorities received information from a concerned resident who alerted the police, leading to their swift response and successful rescue.

Both suspects had been previously arrested in December 2025 for a similar crime and incarcerated for around five months. Post-release, it was discovered that they had abducted and trafficked four other children across the country. One recent incident involved the suspects transporting two children to a known figure named 'Madam Ijeoma' in Port Harcourt, who reportedly paid N1.5 million for each child.

Thankfully, the rescued girl has been reunited with her family, and the police are currently investigating the case. The suspects remain in custody and will be brought to trial upon completion of the investigation. The FCT Police Command has emphasized the importance of vigilance among parents and guardians to ensure their children's safety and urged residents to report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station or through their designated emergency lines.
