Perak police launch investigations over toddler’s fatal fall at Victoria Bridge

IPOH, Sept 2 — The Perak Police have initiated investigations into the fatal fall of a three-year-old boy from Victoria Bridge in Enggor, near Kuala Kangsar, according to police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin. The investigation papers have been opened under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001, and several individuals have been summoned to assist in the inquiry.

Witnesses report that the victim, Abdul Rafee Abdul Halim, fell approximately five meters while walking near a gap in the bridge's structure. Initial findings suggest no negligence was involved, and the police await the results of a post-mortem examination from Kuala Kangsar Hospital.

State Housing and Local Government Committee chairperson Sandrea Ng Shy Ching announced that the Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council (MPKK) had temporarily closed the visitor access to the steel structure section of the bridge to ensure safety. The closure will remain in place until worn and rotten track timbers are replaced, additional safety measures are installed, and the area is deemed safe to reopen.

MPKK is seeking RM50,000 for immediate allocation to install safety netting below the bridge while waiting for funds for other repairs. The overall safety of the site will also be reviewed in consultation with relevant parties to determine suitable improvements.
