Pei Tty embraces modern coaching approach on BAM return

KUALA LUMPUR: Wong Pei Tty, the new Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) coach, has transitioned from conventional coaching techniques to a modern approach centered on leadership and communication. She attributes her development in these areas to her two-year tenure as Singapore's junior chief coach under Chin Eei Hui. Pei Tty emphasized the importance of leadership and communication, noting that these skills have become increasingly vital in today's coaching landscape.

She explained that, unlike the past when coaches would simply instruct players on their actions, present-day coaching requires a greater emphasis on explaining the reasoning behind these actions and the benefits they bring. This shift is crucial for working with a younger squad featuring world No. 23 Ong Xin Yee, Low Zi Yu, and other young athletes. Pei Tty believes that effective communication and the ability to explain the 'why' behind training methods are key to motivating players to perform at their best.

Attitude remains a significant factor, but Pei Tty recognizes the need to adapt her coaching methods to suit the learning styles of her new players. She plans to implement her new philosophy during the Vietnam Open Super 100, where she will guide a team of promising young players, including Ong Xin Yee, Low Zi Yu, and others.
