‘Pampering your children will destroy them’ – Patience Ozokwor warns parents

Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor, also known as Mama G, has cautioned parents against overindulging their children, which may hinder their ability to become responsible and independent adults. In a discussion about parenting, wealth, and inheritance, Ozokwor emphasized that parents should enable their children to face difficulties and work for what they desire, rather than providing everything to them.

"When you say, 'I don’t want my children to suffer what I suffered when I was growing up,' you see, that’s the best way to destroy your children," she noted. Ozokwor clarified that her advice does not imply intentionally causing hardship for children, but rather encouraging them to endure struggles and grasp the process of constructing their own lives.

"I’m not saying allow them to suffer, what I’m saying is allow them to struggle. Go through the process," she added. Ozokwor also addressed family wealth, advising children not to assume they would receive everything their parents worked for. "Keep the things that you have and let them know that you get yours, this is mine," she stated.

The actress revealed that she employed the same stance with her own son, instructing him to labor for his own residence instead of presuming the house belonged to him. Ozokwor explained, "I told my son, my house isn’t yours, go and work for your own."
