NLC rejects petrol price hike, demands more crude for refineries

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has strongly opposed the recent petrol price hike, branding it as "unacceptable" and questioning why the government has not facilitated adequate crude supplies to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. Acting General Secretary Benson Upah warned that the move would exacerbate the economic challenges faced by ordinary Nigerians, especially workers and low-income households already burdened by high living costs.

Upah questioned the justification for the latest increase, particularly given the falling international oil prices and Nigeria's growing refining capacity. He asked, "Why are we not doing so?" The NLC's reaction follows another price hike by Dangote Petroleum Refinery, which raised petrol prices by N65 per litre, further heightening concerns among motorists and businesses grappling with increased operating costs.
