MOSOP demands transparency over Ogoni oil talks, NNPCL job slots

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has demanded greater transparency from the Ogoni Dialogue Committee (ODC) in their dealings over the planned resumption of oil exploration in the Ogoni area. MOSOP believes that the ODC's lack of openness has eroded trust among Ogoni stakeholders. The organization's Secretary-General, Stephen Nmane, revealed in a statement that the ODC's response to MOSOP's concerns only deepened suspicion.

MOSOP also called for an investigation into alleged oil production activities in Ogoni without the communities' consent or social licence. Additionally, the organization criticized the ODC for publishing a list of beneficiaries without disclosing the names of those involved. MOSOP urged the ODC to publish the authentic list of beneficiaries from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPCL) to alleviate fears.

The group also condemned the inclusion of non-indigenes among the beneficiaries, claiming it was insensitive given the high unemployment among qualified Ogoni graduates. MOSOP clarified that their concerns were not about the ODC's mandate or the distribution of contracts but rather about the identities and competence of the contractors executing the projects.

MOSOP demanded more information on the scope of work, specifications, and milestones for the projects, as well as the disclosure of project details. The organization reiterated its support for the resumption of oil production in Ogoni, but only if the process is transparent, inclusive, and protective of the people's interests.
