Washington's rookie duo, Yohandy Morales and Jared Simpson, made memorable debuts for the Nationals in a 9-5 victory over the Atlanta Braves. Morales had a stellar game, going 3-for-4 with a homer, while Simpson pitched three perfect innings and earned the win. Both players were called up from the minors before the game. This is the second time in baseball history that a player has homered and earned the win in his debut for the same team, since the event occurred on April 4, 2005.

Morales, who hit 25 homers at Triple-A this season, homered in the third inning to put Washington ahead 5-2. Simpson, after inheriting runners on first and second with nobody out, struck out eight batters in his perfect inning. James Wood, the slugger sidelined with an oblique injury, is set to return to the Nationals' lineup on Wednesday, according to manager Blake Butera.
