MND Local: Gorillaz, mariachi festival, immersive dining and more in Guadalajara

In Guadalajara, the 33rd annual International Mariachi and Charrería Encounter is currently in full swing. This 11-day event features live concerts, charro contests, and free activities for families, with 95% of the events open to everyone. Mariachi, a UNESCO-recognized Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, unites diverse audiences across generations.

Performances showcase world-renowned mariachi groups and musical collaborators from over 20 countries including Croatia, Italy, France, Greece, Canada, Colombia, and Australia. Highlights include Mariachi Galas at the Degollado Theater, a concert with Natalia Jiménez, and a closing concert at the Children's Park in Zapopan.

New U.S. Consul General Elizabeth Hoffman Franolich begins her role in Guadalajara, bringing her extensive diplomatic experience in Latin American affairs. A career foreign service officer with over two decades of work, she has previously served in El Salvador, Venezuela, Colombia, and as the trade and investment counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City.

Additionally, British band Gorillaz will perform at the newly renovated GNP Seguros Coliseum in Zapopan on December 9 as part of their "The Mountain Tour." Known for their trip-hop, hip-hop, and lo-fi indie rock, the band's music has captivated crowds since their formation over 25 years ago. The tour features collaborations with artists like Little Simz, Mos Def, and Johnny Marr. Ticket prices start at 2,827 pesos and are available through Ticketmaster Mexico.
