Mitsubishi Pajero returns after five years with a bigger, more luxurious new SUV

After a five-year hiatus, Mitsubishi has brought back the Pajero, its iconic SUV. Initially, the redesigned fifth-generation Pajero will be available in Thailand, followed by Japan and Australia later in the year. Eventually, it will be rolled out globally in 2027, aiming to be sold in approximately 100 countries, including the Middle East. Al Habtoor Motors, Mitsubishi's exclusive distributor in the UAE, will be the local seller.

The new Pajero is larger, more luxurious, and technologically advanced compared to its predecessor. Its length has increased to 4.92 meters, and width to 1.93 meters, resulting in more interior space. Its foundation is shared with Mitsubishi's Triton pick-up (L200 in the UAE), but significant modifications have been made to provide a more comfortable ride.

The suspension system has been revamped, with enhanced sound insulation and acoustic glass to reduce cabin noise. It will be available with a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and its four-wheel-drive system. Drivers can lock the center and rear differentials for tackling more challenging terrains.

The exterior has been given a fresh makeover, described as "Grand Charisma". It's cleaner and more modern but still retains recognizable Pajero features. The front and rear lights share a similar rectangular shape, and headlights are positioned further from the edge to protect them. Notably, the spare wheel has been moved underneath the vehicle, making the boot easier to access.

Inside, the cabin has undergone a significant transformation. It offers more space for passengers with higher-quality materials, including a leather-trimmed dashboard. Two 12.3-inch displays are standard, while higher-end models feature larger 14.3-inch screens. Physical controls are retained for functions such as air conditioning and a traditional gear shifter.

Additional features include wireless phone charging, heated and ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, and an off-road camera setting for better visibility. Higher-end models come with a Yamaha sound system, three-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof. The cabin has also been made more spacious, with increased headroom and legroom, and the second-row seats can slide forward or backward by up to 150mm.
