Mitsubishi Pajero returns after five years with a bigger, more luxurious new SUV

The Mitsubishi Pajero, after a five-year absence, has returned with a redesigned version of its popular SUV. The Japanese automaker unveiled the fifth-generation Pajero in Thailand, where it has a significant production facility, and it will soon be available in Japan, Australia, and eventually 100 other countries. Al Habtoor Motors, Mitsubishi's exclusive distributor in the UAE, will be the first to sell the vehicle in the country.

The new Pajero is larger, more luxurious, and technologically advanced compared to its predecessor. It features a longer wheelbase, providing extra interior space, and shares some foundations with Mitsubishi's Triton pick-up, known as the L200 in the UAE. The vehicle has been reworked with a revamped suspension system, sound insulation, and acoustic glass to create a quieter cabin.

The Pajero will come with a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and Mitsubishi's four-wheel-drive system. The exterior design, dubbed "Grand Charisma," is cleaner and more modern than recent models while retaining recognizable Pajero elements. Notably, the spare wheel has been relocated beneath the vehicle, making the boot more accessible.

The cabin has undergone significant changes, with more passenger space, higher-quality materials, and a leather-trimmed dashboard. Dual 12.3-inch displays, two higher-specification 14.3-inch screens, a traditional gear shifter, wireless phone charging, heated and ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, and a Yamaha sound system are among the luxurious features.

The second-row seats can slide forward and backward by up to 150mm for enhanced passenger flexibility.
