Mississippi city where police killed one-year-old Kohen Wiley fires police chief

On Tuesday, the police chief of Senatobia, Mississippi was fired following the shooting death of one-year-old Kohen Wiley by police responding to a shoplifting call. Kohen's mother, Vellesiya Wiley, claimed the family did not steal anything, and no charges have been filed against them. The police chief, Harold Vanderford, resigned the same day but the city's board of aldermen voted unanimously to fire him instead.

The firing follows allegations that Vanderford used racist slurs in private text conversations with a colleague. Kohen's death has sparked anger in the small town, where tensions between Black residents and the police have been high in recent years.
