Minister slams TV drama over ‘deviant’ themes

Religious affairs minister Zulkifli Hasan has criticized the television drama Madu atau Racun, expressing concerns over its "deviant" themes that he believes conflict with Islamic teachings and local norms. In a statement, the minister highlighted that the show's depiction of such themes had caused unease and controversy among viewers, potentially eroding moral values among young Malaysians.

According to Zulkifli, Islamic teachings always prioritize preserving the sanctity of the family institution and religious decorum, and depicting deviant lifestyles is entirely contrary to these values. The Islamic Development Department (Jakim) will collaborate with regulatory agencies to review the show's content in accordance with the country's broadcast censorship guidelines and legal provisions.

The minister urged producers, content creators, and broadcast networks to adhere to official guidelines, emphasizing that media platforms and the arts should aim to build character rather than provoke public debate.
