Minister slams TV drama over ‘deviant’ themes

Religious Affairs Minister Zulkifli Hasan has vehemently criticized the broadcast of a TV drama series titled Madu atau Racun, expressing concern over its "deviant" themes. The drama has sparked unease and controversy among viewers, potentially undermining moral values among young Malaysians, according to Hasan. The minister emphasized that Islamic teachings prioritize the sanctity of family and religious decorum, and any depiction of deviant lifestyles is fundamentally opposed to these core values.

In a statement, Hasan announced that the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) will collaborate with regulatory agencies to assess the show's content in alignment with the country's broadcast censorship guidelines and legal provisions. He urged creators, producers, and broadcasters to follow official guidelines, stating that media and the arts should aim to build character, rather than provoke public debate.
