Man dies after fight over Sh20 in Kisumu

In Kisumu County, North East Kano, police are investigating the death of a 24-year-old man, John Rao Otieno, who died on September 1, 2026, following an alleged altercation over Sh20. Otieno, who was working on a water pipeline near Prof. Ayiecho Olweny's residence, reportedly had a disagreement with a colleague over the small sum of money before they began fighting.

The assailant allegedly kicked Otieno in the abdomen, causing him to collapse and die at the scene. The suspect fled the area immediately after the incident. Police arrived at the scene, collected evidence, and transported Otieno's body to Othoo Funeral Home for further examination. No external injuries were found on his body. The police are now searching for the suspect and continue to investigate the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding Otieno's death.

In a separate incident, Ugunja police are also investigating a murder that occurred on September 1, 2026. The victim, Kennedy Odhiambo Obonyo, a 36-year-old casual worker, was found with multiple stab wounds to the head along the Got Osimbo–Bar Atheng road. The cause of the killing remains unclear, and investigators are probing the events leading up to the murder and attempting to identify those responsible.
