MACC probes not based solely on old TH cases, says chief

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has clarified that the investigations and arrests involving several high-profile individuals following the revelations in the Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report were not conducted randomly or solely based on past cases. MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman disclosed that a committee had been formed to examine the report and previous MACC investigations related to TH matters.

The committee investigating officers were instructed to rely on complaints and information received, adhering strictly to established standard operating procedures. At MACC level, a committee was established to review new and old investigation papers awaiting a decision. Some of these old investigation papers had been opened but were still pending, with no resolution made.

This committee will assess the status of these old investigation papers, including those without a decision, and determine if they should be reopened. Investigation papers that are reopened will also be reviewed from a legal standpoint, especially those previously classified as No Further Action (NFA). The committee hopes to decide on further action, including potential prosecution in court, within a one-week period. If there is no prosecution, then there will be none.
