MACC opens 7 probe papers on Felda, subsidiary

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has initiated seven investigations into alleged mismanagement, abuse of power, and corruption at Felda and its subsidiary, Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FIC), according to MACC chief commissioner Abd Halim Aman. The large-scale probe, which commenced on August 24, will examine investment transactions and asset acquisitions by Felda and FIC between 2010 and 2020.

Six new investigation papers were opened, covering FIC's investments in Tataran Aras Sdn Bhd (Limbang, Sarawak), Grand Borneo Hotel Sdn Bhd (Sabah), Grand Plaza Service Apartments (London), Felda Wellness Corporation Sdn Bhd, the acquisition of Felda House and Grand Felda House, and the Kuala Lumpur Vertical City project. An existing investigation paper concerning Park City Grand Plaza, currently undergoing mutual legal assistance, is also being reviewed.

MACC has enlisted 12 individuals to aid the investigations and has recorded statements from a FIC board member, a secretary, legal division staff, law firm representatives, and officers from land and mines and valuation departments. Arrests are anticipated in the coming days, with the initial arrests potentially occurring as early as next week.

The total value of the alleged bribes remains undetermined as the inquiry is in its preliminary stages. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had previously stated that Felda was suffering losses of nearly RM10 billion due to mismanagement and excessive political interference, with the government reportedly planning to release a special task force report on Felda's issues shortly.
