Lucy Letby 'boyfriend' doctor named as court order lifted

Mark Deakin, now deceased at the age of 53, was previously identified as Lucy Letby's boyfriend during her trial for the murders of seven babies in 2015 and 2016. The court had granted Deakin anonymity until recently, when a court order was lifted allowing his name to be revealed. Deakin, a married doctor, worked alongside Letby at the Countess of Chester Hospital during the period of the alleged crimes.

Following his death, an inquest will be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding his passing. The Thirlwall inquiry, investigating how Letby's murders took place, revealed that Deakin and Letby exchanged over 1,000 Facebook messages, with Deakin helping her secure a placement at Alder Hey Children's Hospital despite his concerns about her actions.

Deakin testified at Letby's trial, providing evidence about their joint emergency calls and text messaging, but later expressed regret for his involvement. Letby, who maintains her innocence, is currently serving 15 whole life terms in prison, and a review of her convictions is being conducted by the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC).
