KAC names new CEO

Kim Won-joon, a former chief of the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency, assumed the role of the 14th president and CEO of Korea Airports Corp. (KAC) on Wednesday, addressing the two-year leadership void within the state-run airport operator. In his inaugural address, he emphasized his commitment to prioritizing airport safety and public trust as the cornerstone of his management approach.

Kim has scheduled a visit to Muan International Airport following his appointment, where he plans to pay respects to the victims of the devastating Jeju Air crash that occurred in December 2024, resulting in the loss of 179 lives. During his visit, he will inspect both the disaster site and a facility that houses the belongings of the deceased.

Kim is anticipated to focus on providing support to the bereaved families and addressing the ongoing concerns related to the tragic incident.

During his inauguration ceremony, Kim announced his intention to review and reform longstanding practices, as well as overhaul the company's management system to ensure long-term growth. He highlighted the challenges that KAC faces, such as an extended period without a leader, limited opportunities for expansion in domestic air travel, a stagnant revenue structure, and increasing financial pressures.
