Johor dengue cases jump 131pc to 9,954 as infections rise across districts

Johor has seen a staggering 131.3% rise in dengue cases this year, with the state recording 9,954 cases as of Epid Week 34. This is a significant increase from 4,304 cases during the same period last year. State Health and Environment Committee Chairman Ling Tian Soon reported that 4,520 cases, or 45.4% of the total, were reported from outbreak localities, while 5,434 cases, or 54.6%, were from non-outbreak areas.

The number of dengue fever cases reported during Epid Week 34 increased by two per cent compared to the previous week, with 664 cases being reported. Out of these, 308 cases, or 46.4%, were from outbreak localities and 356 cases, or 53.6%, were from non-outbreak areas. Johor Bahru, the capital city, reported the highest number of cases in this week, accounting for 495 cases, or 74.6% of the total.

Other districts like Kulai, Batu Pahat, Segamat, Kota Tinggi, Muar, and Pontian also reported cases, with Johor Bahru leading the pack. Unfortunately, the year has seen 13 deaths due to dengue, a considerable jump from eight deaths recorded for the same period last year, marking a 62.5% increase. In addition to the health concerns, enforcement activities have led to the issuance of 3,745 compounds with a total value of RM1.87 million, with 80.2% of them being paid.
