Iran hits US bases across Middle East after deadly US strikes, wedding deaths

Tehran, September 2 — Iran launched a series of attacks on US military sites in the Middle East following a series of US strikes and the deaths of four individuals at an Iranian wedding. These attacks marked the heaviest fighting in the six-month conflict. The US President had previously warned of more severe reprisals if Iran responded to the initial strikes.

Iran claimed that the latest strikes resulted in 18 deaths. The renewed attacks exacerbate tensions as Iran continues its control over the Strait of Hormuz, while the US maintains a blockade of Iranian ports. Iran's Revolutionary Guards asserted responsibility for the attacks, targeting bases in Jordan, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region.

The Guards stated that they initiated the attacks in response to Washington's strikes and the death of four people at an Iranian wedding. A video shared by the Iranian government showed the extent of the damage at the wedding site in Sirik, Iran. Iran's top negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf referred to the US as "Satan" and accused it of acting ruthlessly.

The US military denied targeting civilians, contrasting with the IRGC's actions. The latest fighting erupted after the US struck Iranian targets on Sunday, with Iran retaliating shortly after. The US President had vowed a more powerful response if Iran retaliated to the strikes.
