iQIYI to take down six ‘Madu atau Racun’ episodes

The Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (CMCF) and the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) are set to meet the producers of "Madu atau Racun" and iQIYI management. The purpose of the meeting is to seek clarification on the "deviant" elements depicted in the drama series. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced that his ministry initiated the meeting, even though licensing matters for streamed dramas and films on over-the-top (OTT) platforms are not directly overseen by Finas.

He emphasized that the government will not tolerate any drama or film production company that ventures into religious and racial sensitivities. Freedom of artistic expression must be balanced with respect for religious values, social harmony, and cultural sensitivities, which are crucial for national unity, according to the government spokesman.

If any guidelines or regulations are breached, the government is prepared to take action. Following the meeting, Finas will release a statement on the outcome of the discussions and any subsequent steps. Fahmi expressed hope that the Islamic Development Department would also participate in the meeting. Earlier, Religious Affairs Minister Zulkifli Hasan opposed the broadcast of "Madu atau Racun," citing "deviant" elements that contravened Islamic teachings and local norms.

He claimed the show caused unease and controversy by addressing such themes and risked undermining moral values among young Malaysians.
