Indore Builds Disaster-Ready Volunteer Force: 150 Join Aapda Mitra Training, Target Set At 900

Indore's disaster preparedness efforts took a significant step forward on Tuesday, as the second session of the seven-day 'Aapda Mitra' training program kicked off at the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Training Centre in Ralamandal. The initiative aims to create a robust network of trained community volunteers who can respond efficiently to emergencies and natural disasters.

Currently, 150 volunteers have signed up for the second batch, with the Indore district administration setting an ambitious goal of training 900 'Aapda Mitras' across various phases.

To kickstart the training, Divisional Commandant Preeti Bala Singh and Training Chairperson Dr Madhu Rajesh Tiwari officially inaugurated the session. The program focuses on providing volunteers with crucial skills such as first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), evacuation, search and rescue operations, flood rescue, and firefighting. These skills are designed to empower participants to offer immediate assistance until specialized rescue teams arrive on the scene.

In addition to technical training, the volunteers are learning innovative methods to construct temporary rafts and stretchers using easily accessible materials like banana stems and plastic bottles during emergencies. Led by Home Guard Company Commander Avinash Dinkar, the training sessions emphasize the importance of preparedness, swift response, and effective coordination during disasters.
