India to host inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy after shift from Sri Lanka; Check teams, dates and venues

In a significant development for women's cricket, India has been selected as the host country for the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in 2027. The tournament, which will take place from February 14 to 28, 2027, will replace Sri Lanka as the host nation. The six-team event will be played in the T20I format, with a total of 16 matches scheduled to be played in Mumbai and Vadodara.

India, Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka have qualified for the competition based on the ICC Women’s T20I Team Rankings. The tournament will feature a round-robin league stage, with the top two teams advancing to the final. Sri Lanka lost hosting rights due to governance concerns, which led to the ICC Board approving the shift to India following a host evaluation process.

"The ICC Women’s Champions Trophy 2027 marks an exciting new chapter for women's cricket," stated ICC Chairman Jay Shah. "It will bring together the best teams in the world in an intense, high-quality competition, while creating even greater incentive for teams to continue rising through the rankings and competing for a place on the global stage."

Shah also highlighted the ICC's plans to establish a stronger rhythm for women's international cricket through a regular calendar of major events.
