India, China, US on list as Nepal seeks climate compensation after deadly floods: ‘Moral liability, not charity’

India, China, and the United States have emerged as potential candidates for climate compensation for Nepal following devastating floods that claimed over 1,000 lives. Nepal's Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal expressed his nation's concern, stating that despite contributing virtually negligible greenhouse gas emissions, Nepal is bearing disproportionate consequences of global warming.

The country is experiencing rapid glacier melt and extreme mountain disasters, he emphasized, adding that these are direct consequences of global climate change. Khanal proposed that any assistance to Nepal should be seen as a moral liability, rather than mere charity. He further stated that Nepal's diplomatic approach will shift from receiving aid to seeking justice and compensation.

Khanal singled out India, China, and the US as the world's largest greenhouse gas emitters, urging these nations to take historical responsibility for compensating vulnerable nations like Nepal.
