Imtiaz says ‘there will be no compromise on unity and integrity of Sindh’

Karachi, Sindh Assembly member Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh has stated that discussions surrounding the division of Sindh have been prevalent in various media platforms, but there is an unwavering stance on the province's unity and integrity. Sheikh emphasized that any matter should be addressed through dialogue, consultation, and feasible proposals, except for the division of Sindh.

He highlighted that every individual is entitled to voice their opinion before the Sindh Assembly and the people. Notably, opposition members have focused on development, power distribution, and local body empowerment rather than advocating for the division of Sindh, which Sheikh found encouraging. The claims and debates regarding the province's division in the political sphere have not materialized into a tangible reality at the ground level.

Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh expressed optimism that political allies would refrain from supporting factions promoting Sindh's division and prioritize peace, unity, and brotherhood. He noted that certain individuals linked to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and other political parties have voiced their opinions on Sindh's division, but historically, Sindh's communities have rejected such divisive thoughts.

Sheikh stressed that all communities residing in Sindh must contribute to safeguarding the province's unity and fostering peace, harmony, and brotherhood. The historical heritage of Sindh's unity, which dates back centuries, forms an essential part of its identity. Sindh played a pivotal role in the Pakistan Movement, with its history predating Pakistan's establishment.

The resolution for Pakistan's creation was passed by the Sindh Assembly, and the province actively participated in the formation of the nation. Sheikh mentioned that when migrants from various parts of the subcontinent arrived in Sindh, the locals welcomed them warmly as brothers. The province has always been known for its diverse communities, languages, and cultures, with its identity grounded in tolerance, peace, love, and coexistence.

Addressing remarks made by federal ministers about potential new provinces, Sheikh urged them to refrain from statements that could sow mistrust or tension among the constituent units. He emphasized that it is the Prime Minister and the federal government's duty to prevent federal ministers from making statements about new provinces that could jeopardize the unity of existing provinces.

Sheikh also criticized a federal minister affiliated with the MQM for discussing the creation of new provinces, particularly when uttered by a member of the federal government, deeming such statements highly sensitive.
