Gown inspired by 7 Layers of C-section: Story behind Miss World Uganda’s striking look

At the Miss World 2026 World Designer Award in Vietnam, Miss Uganda 2026 dazzled with a gown named Layers of Life. The couture creation was inspired by the seven anatomical layers encountered during a Caesarean section, according to Ugandan designer Keesha Abdallah. The gown's personal touch stems from Abdallah's experience as a new mother, aiming to turn childbirth into an artistic, high-fashion statement.

Abdallah's concept was to visually represent the miracle of childbirth through seven distinct layers. The challenge lay in selecting appropriate colors that would bring the gown to life. Dr Preety Aggarwal, Medical Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Motherhood Hospitals, Gurgaon, found the gown "creative and meaningful" in explaining the complex processes of a C-section. She breaks down the seven layers as follows: skin, subcutaneous fat, fascia, abdominal muscle, peritoneum, uterus, and the amniotic sac.

Dr Priyanka Sonawane, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Zynova Shalby Hospital, Ghatkopar West, Mumbai, appreciated the gown's educational value. She clarifies that the seven layers are a simplification of the actual surgical process, which can vary depending on the patient and surgeon. The gown offers an accessible way to visualize these layers, sparking conversation about the realities of C-section births and the physical journey of mothers.
