Ghana Ambassador hails Team Ghana efforts after Zone II Swimming Championships

Ghana’s Ambassador to Senegal, Dr Felix Kumah Godwin Anebo, has commended the dedication of Team Ghana’s swimming delegation in the lead-up to the 2026 Africa Aquatics Zone II Championships in Dakar. During a meeting at the competition’s opening ceremony, the ambassador acknowledged the collective efforts of the swimming fraternity and their supporters in raising funds to support the team’s participation.

Accompanied by Deputy Head of Mission Mr Abu Osman, Dr Anebo highlighted that these combined efforts allowed Ghana to field its largest delegation to the championships. He also encouraged the swimmers to maintain discipline and continue striving for improvement, reminding them of the importance of representing their country with pride on the global stage.

Abeku Jackson, one of the standout performers, emerged victorious with six individual gold medals and was named the Best Swimmer. He set a new national record in the 50m backstroke, clocking 26.27 seconds, and secured the Best Performance award in the senior men’s 50m butterfly with a time of 24.17 seconds. Joselle Mensah also made significant strides, setting a new senior national record in the 50m freestyle at 26.36 seconds.

Nubia Adjei contributed to Ghana’s success by establishing a new senior national record in the 50m butterfly with a time of 28.80 seconds. Notably, 13-year-old Yamin Amankwah Boamah, too, showcased impressive skills, securing five medals during the championships. These exceptional performances underscore the progress being made by Ghanaian swimmers and inspire continued growth in the sport.
