Germany to send new air defense packages to Ukraine in September, Zelenskyy says

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas addressed the media after a meeting, stating that Russia's war aims had not changed since the conflict began. Kallas expressed concern over recent Russian strikes on Kyiv, which had claimed dozens of lives, reinforcing the notion that Moscow is not seeking a peaceful resolution to the crisis.

She highlighted the EU's commitment to helping Ukraine defend itself, noting that the bloc has already released the first €8.47 billion from the Ukraine Support Loan, with an additional €6.1 billion approved, specifically for air defense systems. However, Kallas emphasized that more support from bilateral agreements is necessary, expressing satisfaction at hearing recent announcements from member states pledging air defense assistance to Ukraine.

She did not disclose the exact numbers of interceptor missiles committed to providing Ukraine, stating that the countries making these pledges would reveal the specifics themselves. Kallas urged EU member states to contribute their own interceptor missiles from existing stockpiles to bolster Ukraine's defenses against Russia's ongoing aggression.
