EU’s Kallas calls alleged Russian drone plot ‘state sponsored terrorism’ as Europe mulls a response

BRUSSELS (AP) — The European Union's top diplomat said Wednesday that an attempted attack on a German airport blamed on Russia appears to be "state sponsored terrorism," as EU countries weighed their response. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stated that the incident displayed clear characteristics of state sponsored terrorism. She questioned what measures should be taken in response to the alleged attack. The EU has already imposed numerous sanctions on Russia in response to its war in Ukraine, targeting over 3,000 individuals and entities.

Kallas also mentioned that there could be additional sanctions on the military complex of Russia, bringing the total to potentially 1,600 listings. The attempted attack on the German airport has prompted a reevaluation of the EU's approach to this issue, which may involve collaboration with NATO, although countries are hesitant to engage in direct conflict with the nuclear-armed nation.
